Hello!
Its the middle of August and we are in the middle of 5 weeks of Family Camps. Its hard to believe that August is here and we are cruising right through it. The past 4 weeks have been some of the hardest and most challenging times so far this summer. My main cooler went down and we lost a bunch of food, last week we were serving almost 400 people per meal, and some very long days. It has been a challenging time, but God has been working in many ways through the staff here at camp. I've had the chance to talk with several family campers and learn more about them and telling them what I'm doing here.
Three weeks ago I was able to get out of the kitchen for the day and lead the high school day canoe trip! It was a great, refreshing break from the kitchen. I had a lot of fun hanging out with 15 high schoolers and canoe on the Flambeau river like I did so many times last summer! I'm also enjoying driving hayrides during family camps. It give me a chance to interact with campers outside of the kitchen.
We are in the middle of Family Camp 4 with two camps to go! After Labor Day, we "slow" down. Its not quite as busy, but we still are busy through mid October when we start to quiet down till the end of December. I'm excited to see how the fall turns out and what God is going to teach me. This summer God has laid on my heart the importance of remembering that He has a plan for my future. I'm unsure of what the fall/winter will be. Right now I'm planning that I'll still be here at CFS, but with God that could change quickly. I make long term plans, but I remember that God could change them. Its happened before and I imagine it will again. One thing that will stay the same is God. He will continue to be faithful, true, and unchanging.
A few prayer requests as I finish.
To finish the summer strong. The days are long and take a lot of energy. Its easy to give just enough to get by, but not my best.
To be spiritually alert. It can be tough with the long hours at camp to make time for personal devotions.
As the summer ends to find time to refuel and get ready for the fall season.
That God will provide another head cook for the fall retreat season.
That the campers who come will find relaxation and refreshment and be spiritually fed.. They come from all walks of life and backgrounds.
The picture I attached is a snap shot of my kitchen crew. These are just some of the people I have been working with. Cook's Helpers change through out the summer!
A couple of facts from the last few weeks/months. In the month of July, campers and staff consumed over 500 gallons of Milk. Last week, we served 6,400 meals. We had almost 400 campers and staff at each meal! A work day shorter then 12 hrs feels weird. Campers and staff consumed close to 1,000lbs of beef alone. Not to mention all the chicken, turkey, and pork!
Thanks again for your prayers and encouragement!!
Alex
