Its hard to believe that we're in the third week of July. This week we have Junior Highers. Its the fourth of week of youth camps. Next week is our fifth and final week of youth camp. If you think we end with youth camps, that is wrong. July 25 we start 6 weeks of family camps. Our last Family Camp is Labor Day weekend. Then we start with fall retreat groups that will keep us busy through the end of October!
The kitchen has been busy as usual. In the month of June we served over 15,000 meals. Campers and Staff consumed 350+ gallons of milk and 800lbs of Beef in June. July and August numbers will increase! Each day brings its new challenges from switching meals on the fly, to dealing with the weather, and staffing. The days can get crazy and long, but I find times to get away. I usually go biking or some other outdoor activity. Next week Tuesday, I get the chance to help lead a one day canoe trip for our High School campers. We head out onto the Flambeau River for a fun day on the river! I was on the Flambeau all last summer leading canoe trips and I'm looking forward to getting back out there!
Back in the summer of 2008, while I was participating in CFS's LTD(internship) program, I was a counselor during youth camps. Over the past couple of weeks, I have been seeing some of my campers come back. It has been great to continue that relationship with my guys. I've had the opportunity to hang out with several of them and see how their doing. I love being able to reconnect with them. Also wilderness trip groups that I had last summer have come back through and I've been able to reconnect with them also! This is one of the blessings that being here at camp multiple summers in a row. Seeing youth and adults that I have built a relationship with and reconnecting with them.
On a side note. Yesterday (Wednesday, July 14) we had three severe thunderstorms move through our area in about 10 hrs. It kept everyone on their toes. Thankfully no one was hurt. A telephone pole and tree were struck by lightning in the middle of camp in the first round of storms. I love storms, so I got my fill yesterday! Whew!
Praise and Prayer!
Praise that we have had almost full camps this summer. We offer a scholarship fund that helps youth out if they are unable to pay the full amount.
Praise that God has been at work and bringing many kids to salvation!
Prayer: Strength for the rest of the summer. I'm feeling the strain of the stress and long hours in the kitchen.
That God will continue to give me the wisdom in leading the kitchen staff and managing everything that goes on!
That I will continue to seek after the heart of God and discern His will for my life in the weeks, months, years to come!
The health and safety of all the staff and campers.
I want to thank you again for praying for me and the ministry of Camp Forest Springs. I wouldn't be able to be here without your prayers and the strength of Christ!
Have a great weekend and enjoy your summer!
Alex
