It’s the fourth week of June and summer is picking up speed. This week is our youngest youth camp. Lots of energy and lots of fun! We have 200 campers plus 100 staff so each meal is a big deal. I'm constantly planning, changing, and helping with meals. Answering loads of questions about food and preparation and dealing with issues of scheduling, training, and suppliers.
Each day is new and exciting. I start with a list of what needs to get done, but that can quickly change depending upon what happens in the kitchen, camp, and weather. Yes, the weather does impact the kitchen. Early this morning (Wednesday) all the girls out on camp out came in. The weather wasn't looking good so they pulled them in. Instead of the girls eating breakfast outside on their camp out, they ate in the dining hall with the guys! I received a call early this morning finding out about this new plan. I informed my head cook of the change and we managed the change of events! Each day is new and exciting and I love it!
Another puzzle that I have to deal with is ordering food. Twice a week I look at my inventory and menu and figure out what I need to order. Twice a week, I get to put away big food orders. It’s like playing the classic game of Tetris, the blocks coming down at a steady rate and having to put them in the correct place. I do the same thing with my food. Each item has its spot and I have to try and stay ahead of my delivery guy! It’s a fun challenge that keeps me on my toes.
Thanks for your prayers. Day are long, but God is at work. I may not have a first hand part in ministering to kids, but I help provide the physical nourishment so the kids can have fun and learn about God. Each day is new and has its own challenges, but God continues to give me the strength and wisdom.
A few prayer requests:
-For the counselors who are with the kids all week. It’s a tough job, but one that has the most impact!
-Ministry to our summer staff. We roughly have 80 summer staff each week helping at camp. Not only are we able to minister to the campers, but the staff that come for the summer.
-My own ministry to my kitchen staff. That I might lead them to better knowledge of the kitchen, but also Christ!
Thanks again for your prayers! I would love to hear from you and what is going on in your life/what God is teaching you!
In Christ!
Alex
Proverbs 3:5-6
Trust in the LORD with all your heart
And do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He will make your paths straight.
