Alex's Camp Adventure Take 2

Ok, so somehow my first try of sending out my update didn't work, well
it worked but nothing was in the message. So here we go for round two.
Enjoy!

April 2010

Spring is in FULL bloom. We are about two weeks ahead of schedule.
Snow is non-existent. The grass is starting to turn green and the
summer season is about 6 weeks away. It's hard to believe that the
winter is over and we are full steam ahead toward summer. For Easter I
was able to head back to Omaha for a few days. It was a good time of
relaxing and hanging out with friends.

This time of year here at camp, we are slower. We only have groups in
on the weekends and a couple of outdoor education groups. One would
think that my job would slow down. Ha. Just the opposite, with the
summer coming up really soon., I am busy planning menu's for the
summer, finalizing summer staff, and meeting with my food distributors
about the up coming summer season. It may not be a lot of physical
work, but my mind is getting a work out. I've related managing the
kitchen to juggling 12 different balls at once and giving each ball
adequate attention. It makes for every interesting and long days!

With the snow gone and spring on its way, skiing is out and bike
riding is in. In the evenings after work, I usually try and go biking
for a while to get some exercise. It's so beautiful this time of the
year. Grass is turning from brown to green and I'm seeing a lot more
wildlife. Just this morning, I went biking and saw a deer and almost
got sideswiped by a bird.

Over the past week, God has been teaching and reminding me why I am
here at camp. Since I took over, my mind had the business focus. I am
here to run the kitchen, watch the budget, prepare visually and
stomach appealing meals. I wasn't getting a sense of satisfaction from
it. I wasn't enjoying my time. Thinking that way was driving me nuts.
It was one of the few times that I really had no desire to be here at
camp. Last week I was playing soccer with some friends and I was
thinking about the way I was feeling and God reminded me that I was
here to manage the kitchen, but the most important reason was to
minister to the campers through the ministry of the kitchen. I finally
realized/remembered that ministry was the true reason for being in the
kitchen. Since last week, God has changed my attitude toward the
kitchen and I am enjoying it a lot more know that what I'm doing is
for ministry, not strictly business.

Here are a few prayer and praise items!
Prayer Requests:
-Preparation for the summer. There are still a lot of details that
need to be finalized before the summer: Staffing, training, and
equipment.
-Openings in the youth camps. We still have a lot of room left in our
camps for campers.
-Continued openness to where God is going to take me through this
position in the future if it's full-missionary staff or
something/somewhere else.

Praise: A couple of weeks ago we were able to purchase a 10 burner gas
stove. This is replacing a very old 6 burner stove. It was a huge
blessing to find this.

Thanks again for your prayers! They are appreciated and a huge encouragement.

-Alex
